Situated in Central Park at the edge of R Street and nineteenth Street, the Bakersfield Museum of Art is a fine arts exhibition hall that is comprised of four displays. The exhibition hall’s permanent collection mainly consists of works by local artists of Bakersfield, and this collection is supplemented by turning art shows.


Established in 1956, the gallery was mainly supported by the Walter Osborn family in memory of their daughter, Marion Osborn Cunningham. The exhibition hall was initially called the Cunningham Art Gallery and was changed to its present name in 1990.


The 17,400 square foot museum consists of two huge exhibitions and two small galleries, a banquet hall, classrooms, and patio nurseries which display sculptures.

These 56 buildings on 16 acres of land were affectionately moved and reestablished inside the recreation center and orchestrate into an awesome presentation of what an old town would resemble.

The majority of the building you can stroll inside and view the furniture of what may have been the style during their time.


Special events and occasions are being organized here on time, and Christmas celebration is a real fun here. They have everything enriched and have tours into some of the Victorian homes.

Bakersfield is in the southern end of the rich, green farmland of the San Joaquin Valley. This rich county extends from Sacramento to a few miles south of Bakersfield, and is a major region for the generation of vegetables, cotton, grapes and wine, and oil.

Redding, Sacramento, and Roseville are the biggest urban areas in the valley, and Interstate 5 runs the length of the valley north and south.
